Wastewater System Laboratory Technician

Role Description: The Wastewater System Laboratory Technical provides critical support to the Refinery Environmental Department related to NPDES wastewater discharge permit compliance. Support is in the form of fish bioassay monitoring; Bioassay Laboratory supply and maintenance; NPDES Permit chemical / biological sample collection; chemical analyses and monitoring (wastewater effluent and storm water samples); and, Microtox evaluation of wastewater effluent. The position also is responsible for collecting samples throughout the refinery in support of the Benzene NESHAP program, as well as cooling tower water samples associated with Bay Area AQMD rules and regulations. Additionally, monitoring and sample collection in support of special compliance projects and investigations is periodically required. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday (8 hour days) with occasional over time or weekend work required. The Wastewater System Laboratory Technician must be able to work independently and effectively communicate results and observations. This position reports to the Environmental Department’s Water Compliance Professional. Major Accountabilities • Maintain Bioassay Laboratory facilities: order, track, and maintain laboratory supplies • Perform weekly bioassay tests, including reference toxicant tests. Additionally, maintain fish cultures for use in testing • Perform all necessary NPDES permit required sampling, following US EPA and permit-defined procedures. Prepare samples for shipment to or pick up by outside commercial laboratories • Perform necessary chemical monitoring and on-site analysis in accordance with Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) requirements • Perform sampling and monitoring required to assess and maintain regulatory compliance. This includes Microtox analysis, early warning fish bioassay and acidified turbidity testing • Communicate monitoring results and analytical work in an accurate and timely manner • Maintain, create, and populate spreadsheets to establish trends, identify real/potential issues, and aid communication Minimum Required Competencies • A degree in the life sciences, such as biology or aquatic toxicology, or related field is preferred • Environmental laboratory experience and industrial facility experience is preferred. However a combination of relevant education and experience will be considered • Ability to perform field work in a refinery setting • Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and completion of BATC Refinery Safety Training (or equivalent) • Computer competency (Microsoft Word, Excel)

Position Description Job Summary: This position is responsible for providing project management systems and technical direction to projects teams for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective and quality execution of small to medium scale electric substation, transmission, and distribution projects and/or client accounts. This position is the single point of accountability for the successful planning, execution and closeout of projects which is accomplished through managing all aspects of projects including scope, schedule, cost, safety and quality as defined in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). Responsible for managing the client relationship and keeping company management informed of project status and issues. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently. Duties & Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision, the project manager will provide: • management of the project in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures • management of the client and project stakeholders, ensuring effective business relationships are in place and trusted by the all • all aspects of contract negotiation, change order identification, submittal and approval, administration, establishing the system to carry out the contract including management of subcontractors • effective change control and risk management processes • EH&S and Quality programs appropriate for the project • thorough estimates and proposals • effective project meetings (project kickoff, client alignment, status meeting, progress review, etc) • provide meaningful performance related feedback/input to appropriate line management and project team members • project reporting and status for the project team, management, and client • accurate project financials reports to project accounting with adequate backup for management, internal and external accounting and/or SOX requirements • effective financial controls to ensure project profitability and expected cash flow positions • accurate invoices to ensure timely issuance and payment
